gearing up for my wonkybutton open house at the end of august as part of Lewes' Artwave season

here are more brooches i will be selling (for £6.50)
i do hope people will come. am quite nervous and wonder if anyone will actually come.. what was i thinking?!
there will be nice cakes and bunting and lovely old music playing on the record player.
so if you live nearby or fancy a weekend jaunt to the beautiful town of lewes, please come and visit!

i guess if nobody comes, i can al\ways eat all the cake myself while i am waltzing about like a loon in my front room.

wonkybutton christmas angels

no i am not completely bonkers- i do know it is nearly june!

i've had these since before christmas but didn't have time to make one.
at last i have had time to rustle one up.
this snippysew kit will have 3 in a set (pink, blue and orange) and are about 10cm high and to hang on your tree
(i didn't have a christmas tree handy this time of year funnily enough)

perspex cloud mobile

here is a sample of my lovely puddle machine (aka cloud) mobile that i might sell at my open house in august. i just need to rebalance the raindrops as they are not pleasing me in this configuration. other than that.... i like it.

hand illustrated baby cards

yes yes i know, i have made OOOOODLES of baby cards the last couple of years (having babies must be in fashion or something?)

as you might know,i  am doing the lewes artwave open studios this year, and i am making hand made illustrated cards to sell. they do look cute....

broach designs for wonkybutton

here are some quick broach designs i did which i will hopefully make and sell in my etsy wonkybutton shop. they will be made from lasercut perspex. very exciting indeedy oh yes.

i hope you like the detail... particularly the cats bottom (hoping that is not too silly, i would wear it if that counts for anything)

dolleebees and mister dolleebees all packages up!

at last have packaged up my dolleebee and mister dolleebee snippysew sets.

i am going to be doing the lewes ARTWAVE in august this year where i will be showcasing all my wonkybutton wares and the etsy shop will be open in the autumn yip yip!

in these little stripy bags are the bits of ribbon and elastic that you need to make your dolleebees

mr hooty tooty doorstop

here is the protostype of mr hooty toot

a snippysew kit that i will be selling in my wonkybutton etsy shop later in the year

he is full of 2.5kg of rice!

i like his shape- but am going to ammend colours and textures and pattern somewhat

and plan to add a sew on beak and add some teddybear style glass eyes for a nice detail...

wonkybutton postcards yey!

....at last, and this time the reverse is printed the right way up (i know this is wonkybutton, but i didn't want anything THAT wonky).

also have my business cards.... but for someone who sits in a shed all day and hangs out with 2 year olds, i am not sure when i will ever get the chance to use them ha ha!

not sure when i will be able to get my etsy shop live though, as go onto maternity leave in a couple of weeks (eek)

wonkybutton shares the love!

this was meant to come back from the printers as a nice promo postcard to give to nice folk.
but the stupid printers printed the wrong thing (they printed my business card all big and postcardish)
so this postcard will have to wait a jiffy and be patient
the image makes me smile though so i wanted to share it

at least i will have huge big business cards now to give out to people for their handy huge postcard size wallets that they all carry around with them.

snippysews- ready to go

here are some of my fabric snippysew Mcbabbys all packaged up and ready to go!

each snippysew set comes with an instruction postcard with a lovely shiny image of what it will look like on the front! I like the McBabbys as they come with a squeaker and a bell to put inside

wonkybutton bunnyrella art prints

here are some photos of my bunnyrella series (one is missing as i gave it away and forgot to take a photo of it oops!)
i will be selling them in my etsy wonkybutton shop soooon(ish!).
in the meantime i will be testing the water with them up at the zero2illo live illustration conference that i am going to (and speaking at gulp) on saturday in nottingham.

it has all been a little frustrating as i have been having lots of production hitches (that i am still in the process of resolving)... crikey all soooo time consuming. am trying to keep focused on the bigger picture but it is hard when you are juggling lots of balls and you don't even like jugglers.

another prototype for my wonkybutton etsy shop.
this time a cushion.
quite like it (although i haven't yet finished the button hole detail on the back..... just waiting for a mo to get to the button shop (ha ha any excuse!)

mister dolleebee (part time superhero)

here is mister dolleebee in his superhero outfit

 and here he is in his evening wear.
note the superhero cape is turned around and used to make his smart bowtie front.
also note that the masked eyes peek in a different direction!

i wasn't quite happy with his belly ballooning pantaloons so have modified the design.
i guess this is one reason why it is taking me ages to refine and get right my wonkybutton etsy shop products.
(that and the fact that i am really busy with my books... all good but i wish i had some ompalumpas)
nearly there though- hope it will be worth it!

and here is misterdolleebee with dolleebee in the rocking chair.
i think you will agree that they sure make a swell couple.

Pencil skirt kitty

.this one is a real easy peasy one to make...

1 Cut out both the pieces keeping neatly to the outside cutting line

2 Pin both pieces together with the printed side facing inwards.

3 Sew around the edge keeping to the printed line as best you can (you can see this through the fabric). Make sure to leave the flat space in between the two ears unsewn . (You will need to leave this open to be able to turn the right way and stuff later).

4 Carefully snip around the curved edges of  the seam (making sure not to cut into the sewn line). 

This will give a better finish and prevents bunching around the seam when you turn it inside out.

5 Turn the Pencil Skirt Kitty the right way around and stuff.

6 Hand sew up the opening.

and here she is... Miss Pencil Skirt Kitty.

She is a bit of an oddity- maybe thinking she is too spindly for a nice big fat comfy cushion, 

And she looks a bit like a big spanner... not sure if i will go full steam ahead with this one for my etsy shop.

Hmm... but maybe she would be good with a tv remote pocket on her skirt (it would be exactly the right shape for that). A tv remote storing cushion... too gimmicky or a brain wave?

McBabby Rabbits

hey there yooall,

i managed a small slice of time to rustle up a couple of fine McBabbys.

again, there will be a few tweaks. but think these will  be fun as one has a squeaker in, (Squeaky McBabby) and one had a bell in (Dingaling McBabby).

Cut out all the pieces keeping neatly to the outside cutting line.

Make 2 piles (one for Squeaky McBabby,and another for Dingaling McBabby)and follow the instructions below for each one in turn.

Pair up the matching pieces so that you have 2 legs (the longer pieces) and 2 arms (the shorter pieces). Pin with the printed side facing inwards.

Sew around the edge keeping to the printed line (you can see this through the fabric). Make sure you don't sew the flat edge at the top of each arm/leg. (You will need to leave this open to be able to turn it inside out and stuff later).

Carefully make little snips up to the seam around the curved edges of each limb(making sure not to cut into the seam). This will give a better seam finish when you turn it the right way).

Turn both arms and both legs inside out (so now the printed side is on the outside).

Stuff both arms and both legs (making sure not to overfill as  will need some space to be able sew onto the body later).

Carefully place one of the stuffed arms inside the pinned body with its unsewn edge visable outside the hemline of the body pieces (angling arm down slightly so that it hangs better).  Then sew down one side of the body from neck to bottom corner.

Carefully do the same for the second arm.

Place both legs inside the body with their unsewn edge poking out the bottom of the body piece. (This is a little fiddly as the body gets a bit full at this stage) Then slowly sew both legs into position in the body.

Continue sewing around the rest of the McBabbys head- making sure to leave about 8cm unsewn at one side of the head.

(oops sorry i forgot to take photos of 9,10 and 11... my naughtey 2 year old dropped my camera and the one i borrowed is way to fancypants complicated!)

Turn the McBabby the right way around and stuff the head and body. (For Squeaky McBabby add the squeaker at this point, for Dingaling McBabby add the bell).

Hand sew up the opening.

Dah dah!

ps my eebee calls all rabbits "Babbys, so that is why the name in case you are wondering!

how to make my russian dillydolly cushion.

cut out all the pieces



match the pocket pieces up (inside out)and pin.



sew around the edge keeping to the printed line as best you can (you can see this through the fabric).

make sure you don't sew the flat edge at the top (as you will need this open to be able to turn it inside out).

carefully snip around the curve (this makes a neater finish when you turn inside out and prevents bunching and crinkles around the seam)




turn inside out so that the 3 pockets are the right way around.

fold the unprinted seam in on itself and neatly sew. (It might be easier to hand sew the 2 smaller pockets as is quite fiddly)



sew each of the 3 finished pockets on the correct size dillydolly.
(again, the smaller pocket may work best if hand sewn)


pin both pieces of each of the 3 dillydolly together inside out.


sew each of the 3 dillydolls, making sure to leave the flat edge of the bottom open (again, this will be used to turn them inside out).

carefully snip around the curved edges into the seam (making sure not to cut into it). again, this will give a better finish and prevent bunching.


turn all 3 dillydolllies the right way around.


stuff each one then turn in the seam and neatly sew up by hand.

it works best if you do each one in turn, starting with the smallest.

make sure not to overstuff the smaller ones as remember they have to fit snugly in the pockets!

also, may i recomment that you use good scissors not rubbish blunto ones that i used.
(where have my good scissors gone?!)

hope you like, this is just the prototype.
have a few tiny tweaks to make before i send off for the real ones!
